Norwegian Language Services is operated by Marte Hult, independent scholar
and translator, who holds a Ph.D. in Scandinavian Languages and Literature
from the University of Minnesota, where she taught Norwegian for many
years. She is the author of Framing a National Narrative: The Legend Collections of Peter Christen Asbjørnsen and Norsk på nettet, a beginning Norwegian online language course. She
translated sixty-four of Hans Christian Andersen's literary fairy tales for the
Barnes and Noble Classics series, and contributed to The Greenwood Encyclopedia of Folktales & Fairy Tales published by Greenwood Press in 2008. Marte has also often taught Norwegian language and literature courses at St. Olaf College. Semi-retired since 2014, she still accepts translation projects that interest her and maintains her online Norwegian course.
